My second book, A TOUCH OF SCANDAL, features some of the characters from A HINT OF WICKED and begins four months after A HINT OF WICKED ends. - How many related books will you write?
As many as I possibly can! Right now there are three contracted, but I love linked stories, and hope to write about Sophie, Garrett, and Tristan’s family and friends for as long as my publisher allows me to! - When will your next book be released?
A TOUCH OF SCANDAL is due out March, 2010. - Will Garrett’s sister Becky get her own story?
Yes! The third book, A SEASON OF SEDUCTION, is Becky’s story. It will be out in October, 2010. - Where do you get your ideas?
My husband, who isn’t a romance reader, brainstorms with me, and he comes up with the wildest ideas! I love turning his non-romantic scenarios into stories of romance and happily ever after. - What are your favorite books and who are your favorite writers?
Oooh, so many! Here are just a few:Young Adult/Children’s: I still love the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. And the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis were books I read over and over as a child. As a pre-teen, I adored Constance by Patricia Clapp…looking back, my love for that book should have been a big hint I was destined to write historical romance!
My favorite adult books, romances and historicals: Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, and Voyager by Diana Gabaldon, The Sunne in Splendor by Sharon K. Penman, The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffeneger, Flowers from the Storm and The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale, Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase.
- How did you get started writing romance?
I always thought I’d write historical fiction for fun, but whenever I read, I found myself drawn in to the romantic aspects of the stories. Finally, I realized I was denying my instincts, so I very slowly (and fearfully — I was terrified of…er…the more intimate aspects of writing romance!) began to write it. I’ve never looked back! - How can I become a published romance writer?
First of all, read and write as much as you can, as often as you can! Secondly, research the market and find out what editors want and are looking for. Thirdly, find other romance writers in your area and network with them. Romance Writers of America is a great place to start and stay connected. - How did you go from a background in engineering to becoming a historical romance writer?
I’ve always had eclectic tastes, but I was raised to believe my creative endeavors, while perfectly fine as hobbies, would never make me a living. When my first son was born, I quit my job, and in my free time, I began to pour myself into my writing. By the time my daughter was born, five years later, I had finished my first novel. - What do you like to do other than write?
When I’m not writing, I definitely prefer spending time with my family and friends. I also love to scrapbook, travel (especially to the U.K.!) and sail. - How are your covers designed?
Contrary to popular belief, authors have little input in the creation of their covers. However, my editor does run everything by me at all stages of the process. She is also very creative and full of ideas, and I’ve been ecstatic with the results so far. - How was your website designed?
The fabulous Frauke at Croco Designs designed it. Isn’t she brilliant?
