My news

Hi everyone. I haven’t been around for a while. There’s a reason for that: On March 18, 2010, I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

This (literally) threw me down for the count. It was the last thing in the world I expected to happen to me. I’m healthy, young, not at risk in any way. My mind was completely blown. It still is, really, except now I suppose I’m staying true to my British roots by forming a stiff upper lip and facing this thing head-on.

In this midst of all this, the book that I’m so proud of, A TOUCH OF SCANDAL, released. It’s been so surreal…such happiness and excitement surrounding a book release in the midst of this daze of fear and confusion about cancer.

I’ve been through two surgeries in the past month. Next, I’m probably looking at chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy. Possibly more surgeries. Despite all of this, my prognosis is very, very good. I will beat this.

So here’s the deal: I might not be online as much as I used to. This has sent my world spinning and I’m still working on setting it to rights. As I told one person, my life completely changed with the words, “It’s cancer.” Fortunately, I have a great family and lots of support from my friends. I might lose my hair, and I might go into early menopause and suffer some weird side effects from the treatments. It’s hard to say what the next few months are going to be like for me. But there are a few things I do know: I’m going to keep writing books. I’m going to keep reading and supporting my fellow authors. Most of all, I’m going to watch my three young kids grow up, and someday I will know my grandchildren.

Thank you to all who are reading this: My readers, my friends, my colleagues…please keep in touch. And if you have a prayer or a positive thought or any kind of light to send my way, I’d really appreciate it.

You know when you have that sick feeling that you know before you know? I had that when I saw your Tweet. I knew before I clicked the link that it was breast cancer.

And all I can say is that I am holding you in the light. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. And if you need any help, any time, I’m only a few hours away.

I was diagnosed with late Stage 2 invasive ductal breast cancer back in 2003. Chemo, surgery, more chemo, radiation and then 5 years of tamoxifen. It was grueling. But I made it! No recurrences, down to once-a-year checkups, and I’m FINE now. You will be too.

How something so awful could happen to someone so wonderful is a mystery to me, but since the universe has set this in motion, please know that you’re well-loved and that we’re going to send so much good karma your way that cancer doesn’t stand a chance.

You’re a strong person and a class act and you’re going to beat this, but for those days when you feel really awful, please never hesitate to lean on the people who care about you.

Jennifer, I am so very sorry for your sad news. You are a brave lady! My mother survived cancer twice, and she lived out her normal lifespan up into her seventies. She did not die from cancer. Her surgery and treatment for cancer was a success, and yours will be successful as well. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

😉 🙁 Jennifer, I am so very sorry you had to even deal with this. I remember when the Dr. told me my 7 and a half year old had Bone Cancer. Everything stopped, everything. I didn’t think I’d be able to breathe again. But I did and I fought right along side her, kicked Cancer’s Ass and today 14 years later, she’s still cancer free. Positive attitude, lots of prayers and love will get you through this. You are definitely in my prayers Jennifer.

I just found out your news and as you can see I’m the 165th person to comment. You have so much support and well wishes and you can include me in with them.

I was my cousin’s Go-To Girl when she had breast cancer. I took her to all her appts and brought her meds when she needed it. We had lunches together and I will tell you, attitude is everything. After the initial shock, she had the best attitude, even when challenges faced her. She’s doing fine now, after a surgery, radiation, chemo, wigs and all. Her cancer was also invasive, but she beat it and so will you.

Jennifer: We’ve never met, but I am so sorry for your problems and can only wish you positive thoughts. My husband, a stock borker, is a great believer in the coyote program. Presumably, coyotes survive in the wilds, against all odds. They find them running about with only three legs, having escaped from traps. Half their fur gone, but regrowing. No matter what is thrown their way, they manage to survive. Thus, stock brokers try to survive in bad times. Thus, I wish you to howl as well…and suvive.

I’m also a breast cancer survivor, although I was fortunate in that mine was non-invasive and I didn’t have to have chemo, just radiation treatment and a mastectomy.

Jennifer, I won your book in Tessa Dare’s contest, and she told me it would come directly from you. I’m so very sorry to hear, but also completely in awe of your courage and determination. Good wishes, good thoughts, much prayers….

You and your family are in my prayers. I had a scare at the first of the year with a lump in one of my breast. I was very lucky the lump was benign, but there are still abnormal cells in the area, and we are still trying to figure out a course of action. I have 4 amazing doctors working together to figure out how to keep me healthy and find a treatment that will hopefully keep the cells from turning into cancer.

Positive thoughts from me to you.

I was diagnosed with BC almost exactly 4 years before you and am now doing well. You can beat this!!!

I hope you have a support network – friends or family. It really seemed to help me to know people were pulling for me. The chemo is draining, but there are all kinds of tips out there on how to survive it. Take naps. Try to get out in the sun a little bit and breathe fresh air each day. I tried to continue my morning walks and I think they helped my energy levels. Don’t be afraid to “use the cancer card”. Let people do things for you.

This is getting long so I’ll just finish by saying there are a lot of people out here who care!

Jennifer, I’m sending you healing thoughts and prayers. I’m a BC survivor — 10 years now. Like you, I wasn’t a candidate. I was healthy, ate healthy, exercised, and no one else in my family had it. Anyone can get it. And beat it too! I’m putting my money on you.

In the meantime, I’m eager to read your book. 🙂
