leave a responseToday marks Tessa Dare’s first release. She’s going to have a huge debut for her novel Goddess of the Hunt in July, mark my words, but there’s been lots of buzz about her novella released today from Samhain Publishing, Legend of the Werestag. Tessa’s voice is exquisite and not to be missed!
Also, as I was browsing around the Samhain site, I realized two books I’ve critiqued (and loved) are currently on Samhain’s bestseller list. Called By Blood and Bound By Blood by Evie Byrne are not your “average” vampire books. Evie is, like Tessa, one of those writers that has a way with wit and words that will just make you happy while reading her books, guaranteed!
I’m so thrilled and excited to have worked with both these amazingly talented authors & to call them my friends. From the moment I opened the document and read the first pages of their writing, I’ve been hooked. They’re both great people, too, who have supported me on this wild journey to publication. So, to thank them, and to thank you for stopping by, I’m giving away three e-books to three different winners. If you win, you can select an e-book of your choice:
The Legend of the Werestag by Tessa Dare
Called By Blood by Evie Byrne
Bound By Blood by Evie Byrne
All you need to do is respond and let me know about an author you’ve been hooked on ever since you read that first page of the first book you ever read by that author. Who had you at “hello”?
I’ll announce the winners on Friday!

The first author that comes to mind is Shelly Laurenston. The book was Mane Event and she had me laughing by the end of the first paragraph. Before I even finished the book, I was shopping for her backlist.
by Lillie A May 12th, 2009 at 3:56 pmJennifer Crusie, Welcome to Temptation. She was the first romance author I ever loved.
by Jen May 12th, 2009 at 4:39 pmThe Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale–hooked me on not just her, but romance in general. More recently, The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann; Dark Lover by J.R. Ward; Pleasure for Pleasure by Eloisa James; and A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole.
Sorry to go on and on, but it was a good question!
by Louisa Edwards May 12th, 2009 at 5:11 pmWhen I first started reading romances, it was Madeline Hunter, now Kathryn Caskie is one of those must haves for me.

by Renee Lynn Scott May 12th, 2009 at 5:11 pmI was hooked on Madeline Hunter when her first book came out, By Arrangement (medieval); same with Elizabeth Hoyt when I first read the Raven Prince. Both went on my autobuy list.
I’ve got my eye now on Tessa Dare.
by Pam P May 12th, 2009 at 10:22 pmEver since I picked up Devil’s Bride by Stephanie Laurens, I was hooked. Completely. I LOVE her!
Looking forward to reading Tessa and Evie!
by Christine Ashworth May 13th, 2009 at 10:40 amI’m a fan of Janet Evanovich. Chimed in late on her series, but caught up really quickly and looking forward to reading the next one.
by Charlene Sands May 13th, 2009 at 11:09 amAlso, I love everything Susan Elizabeth Phillips writes too. Also, Linda Lael Miller.
I have two, Allison Lane and Stephanie Laurens. Oh, shoot, I just glanced at some comments above…Jude Devereaux, Linda Lael Miller, I could go on.
by Aileen Fish May 13th, 2009 at 12:21 pmFor me it was Nicole Jordan. I was hooked as soon as I picked up “The Seduction.”
by Jane May 13th, 2009 at 3:06 pmI’ll give you two: MaryJanice Davidson with Undead and Unwed and the second is Katie MacAlister, the first thing I red by her was Zen and the Art if Vampires. They are both wickedly funny and sexy! Great characters in their works.
by Maggi Gentle May 13th, 2009 at 3:37 pmWho had me at hello…Probably Julie Quinn. Oh, and Patrick Rothfuss, who writes fantasy.
(If I win either of Evie’s books, give them to some other lucky person. I have both of those already.
)
by Kate Willoughby May 13th, 2009 at 3:45 pmDo I have to pick just one?
On romance in general: Moonlit Madness by Laurie McBain (I hunted down a tattered copy on ebay a few years ago and it’s on my keeper shelf now)
Others – Dawn Halliday, HIIGHLAND OBSESSION, had me at “blurb”; Kate Pearce, SIMPLY SEXUAL; Crystal Jordan, IN ICE; Lilli Feisty, BOUND TO PLEASE; mima, HONOR WITHIN, Elizabeth Hoyt, THE RAVEN PRINCE…should I stop?
by Emily Ryan-Davis May 13th, 2009 at 8:43 pmThe author who makes me experience word lust is J.R. Ward. Her style is such a beautiful thing. I don’t think anyone writes character interaction as well as she does.
by Hailey Edwards May 13th, 2009 at 8:50 pmJoanna Bourne – Spymaster’s Lady has me so hooked on page 1 and it kept getting better and better. Even thinking about it makes me want to read the book again.
Lian Hearn – After reading page 1, I was weeping inside because *sniff* I’ll never write that beautifully.
Kim Knox – I can’t say I’ve read a single sentence of hers, in whatever shape or form, that I haven’t loved.
And at the danger of this turning into a love fest, that Emily Ryan-Davis chick had me at hello. I’ve only read her shorts and they moved me more than entire novels.
by Jeannie Lin May 13th, 2009 at 9:58 pmI think my TBR pile is going to have issues with me at this rate!
by Yvonne B. May 13th, 2009 at 10:34 pmSo hard to pick just one! But if I must…in the romance genres, it would have to be Megan Hart’s ‘Dirty’ (Harlequin Spice). Her style is raw yet sensual, and her characters are such real people. It’s one of those books I immediately wished I’d written.
by Eden Bradley May 13th, 2009 at 11:31 pmMost recently it was Ariana Franklin and her novel Mistress of the Art of Death. It had been so long since I just sat and read a book cover to cover. Could not put it down and had to go and order the sequel right away. It’s set in 12th Century England, with a Bones-like character, a hunt for a serial killer and a love story. Her use of language is wonderful, and her ear for dialect impeccable. Can’t wait for her to write another.
by RFLong May 14th, 2009 at 3:58 amIt’s Gena Showalter for me. I adore all of her books!
by Robin May 14th, 2009 at 2:08 pmFirst, Jennifer, I wanted to say you make me blush. Thank you spreading the word about my books.
I also wanted to let everyone know that I’m also running a giveaway right now–one for people who buy/win/peek at Bound by Blood. Answer a simple question about the text and win a cute vampire necklace.
This means whoever wins Bound by Blood here could score a second time!
Stop by my blog and check out the details!
by evie byrne May 14th, 2009 at 2:34 pmAnne Bishop. Actually, I was hooked upon reading the premise for her book. Then I actually got the first and read it.
Mad fan ever since.

by Tessa Dare » Blog Archive » Now That’s True Love May 14th, 2009 at 5:27 pmMy first romance novel was a Julie Garwood historical as a teenager and she had me hooked. I’ve read most of her historicals and still re-read a couple every few years.
by Wanderer May 14th, 2009 at 6:04 pmI must say Jacqueline Carey and Robin Hobb come to mind first. I adore them both, and they make 800 pages fly by all too quickly.
by Kai May 14th, 2009 at 9:55 pmOh wow, difficult question, because there are several.
The most memorable–and the first one I remember–is Linda Howard’s Mackenzie’s Mountain. The first line is just
Mind you, I have not liked everything she’s written to the same degree, but most of her books are keepers.
by azteclady May 15th, 2009 at 12:14 pmI’ve got winners! Congrats to post #s: 8, 17, 22–Aileen Fish, RF Long, and Wanderer! Each of you win one ebook by Tessa Dare or Evie Byrne!
